don't get me started on this..
I am addicted and keep checking my gmail inbox every now and then when not coding
commented by mayank, 1 month, 3 weeks ago
_always_ connected! ALL my emails 24/7...gosh! I need a break...
commented by shafeeq, 1 month, 3 weeks ago
24/7
commented by azeez541, 1 month, 3 weeks ago
I'm always connected, Centro is using IMAP so I get an alert every time I have a new email from a contact.
commented by acydlord, 1 month, 3 weeks ago
I probably check it every few hours. I empty my Inbox every morning, then check in periodically to see if I have anything that needs action taken. If something needs immediate attention, I would assume I would recieve an IM/microblog/SMS/phone call about it. Staying in your email all day is one of the primary ways to get off task.
commented by rahsheen, 1 month, 3 weeks ago
I do GTD on Gmail, so I check a bit more than usual... probably every 30-40 mins.
commented by dana, 1 month, 3 weeks ago
Seems most of us use it more like chat than the offline communication it is :D .... the problem is that its pretty inefficient to keep checking IMHO.

@rahsheen it is very true that zero inbox is crucial to keeping your task list in order, i do the same

@shafeeq I think we all need to get off our communication devices sometime or the other.

during work, perhaps once or twice, only because I get some mail that might be considered 'important' to my work. Otherwise, rarely. However at home, about once an hour or so.
commented by paulthe, 1 month, 3 weeks ago
I can't count that high. Seriously, I do check frequently , otherwise my inbox overflows volcanicly.
commented by karenhphillips, 1 month, 3 weeks ago
IMAP is on my cell phone, so every message is pretty much responded to in real time, unless I am in a meeting.
commented by ESONLINE, 1 month, 3 weeks ago
@paulthe thankfully for me the work email account is different :) .... but its true that at home i approach it differently

@karenhphillips he he .... same here , one hour and 30 mails ... it makes it very difficult to manage things later
commented by dipankar, 1 month, 3 weeks ago
I have 2 accounts... one is gmail it's constantly being checked and used.

other is comcast address.. once a day or so...

commented by chuckadkins, 1 month, 3 weeks ago

commented by mayank, 1 month, 3 weeks ago
I just check it when i see a gtalk notification....my God! Do I sound out of date ;D
commented by maitrayee, 1 month, 3 weeks ago
Constantly. I have an alert for when email comes in and since I am a decision maker its basically like this Oxygen then email then food and water. Thats my day 24/7
commented by rogerkondrat, 1 month, 3 weeks ago
almost every 5 mins !
commented by abhishek1711, 1 month, 3 weeks ago
Gmail is checked whenever I sit down.

Godaddy mail after every live stream.

Pretty strict stuff. I haven't checked my Yahoo mail in months... Probably should do so.
commented by lockerhaxor, 1 month, 3 weeks ago
Several times an hour. Literally! On average, at least once every 15 minutes.
commented by averagejoe, 1 month, 3 weeks ago
All day hahahah....
commented by puffaddering, 1 month, 3 weeks ago
I guess everyday since I keep the Mail.app running until i go to bed

commented by Outsanity, 1 month, 3 weeks ago
@maitrayee nah .... if i had my notifications on , i would do the same

commented by dipankar, 1 month, 3 weeks ago
I always have a gmail tab open .. and now I have gmail on my phone so I get noticed as soon as it comes ;)
commented by matthewfong, 1 month, 3 weeks ago
I just use Gmail and have Gmail notifier add-on installed in FireFox so it checks for me, but since I have several accounts I actually end up checking it maybe every 10 minutes or so while I'm at work, then once before bed and once in the morning.
commented by theinfamousgdub, 1 month, 3 weeks ago
GMail's on all the time I'm online :)
commented by manuscrypts, 1 month, 3 weeks ago

commented by jnraptor, 1 month, 3 weeks ago
My Emailed gets checked every 15 min by my phone and email is a good distraction while waiting for build scripts to finish.
commented by jccrosby, 1 month, 3 weeks ago
@jnraptorha ha ha :D ... thats an interesting reason

@jccrosby True ... usually i am checking out stuff on my eeePC when my build scripts run :D

commented by goofydelinquent, 1 month, 3 weeks ago
Let's see...I check approximately every 3-4 hours I'd say.
commented by AshTR, 1 month, 3 weeks ago

commented by lavanya, 1 month, 3 weeks ago
Lets see, Mail checks every three minutes. xD

That's explains the distractions I get every 9 to 18 minutes.
commented by moosterz, 1 month, 3 weeks ago
I've got my work mail integrated into my gmail account, so that one is open all day at work. If i'm behind my machine at home, it's open as well. When i'm not near any machine, i check my phone regularly. So, kinda 24/7... Sjees!
commented by robin, 1 month, 3 weeks ago
personal one i check just once or twice a day as a break from work. the ofc one..it's every time i get the alert.
commented by samantha, 1 month, 3 weeks ago
about 15 times manually and 25 times having nutshellmail.com check it for me

commented by dshack, 1 month, 3 weeks ago
I check my 3 GMail Accounts,2 Yahoo Mail accounts always.Having many accounts and checking all simultaneously is one of the reasons I have 5 browsers in my laptop(Ya, I am not considering the blue E as the browser and hence only 5 :P)...
Ohh..@lavanya , I think I will settle myself to Multiple Mail Mania(MMM)
Dic meaning for Mania-A mood disorder; an affective disorder in which the victim tends to respond excessively and sometimes violently
commented by luckymurari, 1 month, 3 weeks ago
I only wish yahoo was reachable via mail.app

commented by Outsanity, 1 month, 3 weeks ago
E-mail push on my cellphone from 9am to 11pm

commented by luckymurari, 1 month, 2 weeks ago
I keep checking my mails and cleaning my inbox as long as I am awake, I heard it's some kind of disorder! What the heck, I like to keep it clean! :D
commented by krishanu, 1 month, 2 weeks ago
@uberdev: lol

Three people have admitted being addicted to checking emails almost real time, am sure there will be more.
commented by mayank, 1 month, 2 weeks ago
every time something new comes in, which is nearly every minute. ;) or more...

Besides having multiple boxes (due to running my own server/domains) I also have all my mail smsd (texted in short form) to my mobile to give me a head start on whether I want to read it or not... as well as being able to simply read it from there if I decide to. There is no escape if there is any type of network connectivity.
commented by thecolor, 1 month, 2 weeks ago
No count, Gmail is pretty much always open
commented by Majento, 1 month, 2 weeks ago
I check every time I am at my computer. I get the "ding!" on my iPod Touch.
commented by timbrazer, 1 month, 2 weeks ago
Gmail always pulls in the fresh messages instantaneously. I tend to take a look inbetween postings/projects. But a good portion of my work requires me to check message. So unless I am out of the house I am checking it frequently. I should start counting as see where I end up :-)
commented by kestrachern, 1 month, 2 weeks ago
I check my email twice a day
commented by m0dey, 1 month, 2 weeks ago
have you ever read the time it takes out of our day (work or otherwise) when we stop to check mail? considerable.
commented by thecolor, 1 month, 2 weeks ago
@thecolor: add time spent on IM to it and you have 48 hours in a day :)
commented by mayank, 1 month, 2 weeks ago
Constantly. Working freelance means always keeping lines of communication open for any opportunities. If I'm not near my laptop, I check on my iPhone.
commented by kumeelyun, 1 month, 2 weeks ago
Every 5-10 minutes all day long.
commented by Chachafance, 1 month, 2 weeks ago
Check it every day, but when I'm online, I check all new emails, which can be quite often in one day / night.
commented by niktricks, 1 month, 2 weeks ago
I would check it more often if the push/sync feature worked without preventing reading the SD card on my Treo, but as it is I might check once a day or less.
commented by G4daddy, 1 month, 2 weeks ago
"Multiple"...once I open an account (I have several), I leave it open.
commented by slick, 1 month, 2 weeks ago
I open my account once a day and very rarely I touch it on sunday. and sometimes I keep my mailbox untouched when I feel nothing of much interest is coming in it so to get that feeling of surprise whenever i open my account next time.
commented by yatender, 1 month, 2 weeks ago
I clean out my inbox in the morning and check it all day long. And when I am in the car, I check the email from my mobile.

It's a sickness. I tried to take a day away from email and lasted only four hours. I envy those that can unplug. ; )

Gotta go check my email now!
commented by nikitascene, 1 month, 2 weeks ago
All of the time from my Blackberry Bold.
commented by nationhahn, 1 month, 2 weeks ago
Literally, when I'm on the computer every ten minutes, and every hour or two throughout the day on my cell phone. It's a sickness, I agree.
